
Damages after the first bomb at Saint Porphyrios in Gaza City in October 2023
We have just received news that there has been another bomb attack at Saint Porphyrios Orthodox Church in Gaza City. We are working to confirm this as quickly as possible.
Reports from inside the church state that two bombs or rockets just hit the first floor of the monastery injuring at least four people.
We will update as this situation develops and more information is known.
MOST CURRENT INFORMATION
As of 1:33AM local time (18:33EDT):
- – Three artillery rockets landed within the St. Porphyrios Orthodox Church compound, on the first floor of the monastery. Only two exploded.
- – Three people are injured: one Christian and two Muslim civilians.
- – One injury is a broken leg.
- – One of the injured is Vailet Saygh Souri, who lost several family members in the initial blast in October. She has a large piece of shrapnel lodged in her hand.
- – The blasts appear to be artillery shells (155mm caliber) from an IDF M109 Self-propelled howitzer.
