Public Statement on the Escalation of Conflict Following Strikes on Iran
The Order of Saint George the Great Martyr

February 28, 2026

The Order of Saint George the Great Martyr expresses its deep concern regarding the recent military developments involving strikes on Iran and the subsequent escalation of tensions across the Middle East.

At this critical juncture, we acknowledge the complexity of the current situation, shaped by longstanding regional challenges, legitimate security considerations, and the fragile balance that has long defined the region. Developments of this magnitude carry significant implications not only for those directly involved, but for the broader international community.

The Order reaffirms a fundamental and universal principle: the protection of human life and dignity must remain paramount. We mourn the loss of life and extend our prayers and solidarity to all civilians affected by the unfolding events. In times of conflict, it is invariably the most vulnerable who bear the greatest burden.

The Middle East holds a singular place in the spiritual and historical consciousness of the world. It is home to ancient and diverse communities, including Christian populations whose continuous presence dates back to the earliest centuries of the Church. These communities, alongside many others, contribute to the rich human and cultural fabric of the region.

It is our considered view that further escalation risks compounding humanitarian challenges, increasing displacement, and placing additional strain on communities already facing profound hardship. The protection of civilians, the preservation of religious and cultural heritage, and the facilitation of humanitarian assistance should remain central priorities for all actors.

In this spirit, the Order respectfully encourages all parties to exercise restraint and to pursue avenues of dialogue and diplomatic engagement. Constructive diplomacy, supported by the international community, remains essential to reducing tensions and fostering conditions conducive to stability and peace.

We further encourage governments, international institutions, and civil society to work collaboratively to address immediate humanitarian needs while supporting long-term efforts aimed at reconciliation and coexistence.

The Order of Saint George the Great Martyr remains committed to its mission of supporting vulnerable Christian communities, advocating for human dignity, and contributing—within its capacity—to efforts that uphold peace and stability in the region.

We also call upon people of faith around the world to remain attentive to these developments, to pray for peace, and to act in solidarity with those who suffer.

In this moment of uncertainty, we are reminded of the enduring importance of wisdom, restraint, and a shared commitment to the common good.
