On September 20th, with much pain and grief, the faithful of the Orthodox Church of Uganda buried their beloved archpastor, His Eminence Metropolitan Jonah of Kampala and All Uganda. The death of His Eminence was not only a deep loss for the Church in Uganda but also for all of Africa and world Orthodoxy. Metropolitan Jonah toiled much for the Church of Christ since ascending the Archpastoral throne in 1997 bringing many to the bosom of the Orthodox Church.
As Grand Knight of the Holy Orthodox Order of Saint George the Great Martyr, I am incredibly proud of the direct role that the Order played in covering the complete travel expenses of 96 people who otherwise would not have been able to afford to travel to the Capital City of Kampala and attend the State Funeral of a man who to many was more than just a bishop and spiritual father, but a saintly inspiration to a whole generation of African Christians.
To the people of Uganda, I share in your sorrow and pray for a peaceful rest among the saints for your dear late Metropolitan.
