About the Order
The Holy Orthodox Order of Saint George the Great Martyr is a confraternal, religious, lay Order of Chivalry, born from the timeless wellspring of the Holy Orthodox Church and devoted to safeguarding the Christian presence in the Holy Land and throughout the Middle East—the sacred soil where God walked among humankind and where the light of salvation first pierced the world’s darkness.
The Order stands where contemplation becomes compassion and prayer becomes action. It bears the ancient mantle of Christian knighthood—not in the clamor of battle, but in the quiet and steadfast service to Christ and His Holy Church. To defend the Gospel, uplift the suffering, and bear witness to divine truth with humility, courage, and love—this is the heart of its vocation.
Rooted in the Apostolic Thrones of Jerusalem, Antioch, and Alexandria, the Order gathers Orthodox Christians from every corner of the earth, uniting them with all who seek the face of Christ. Together, they labor to strengthen His Church in the lands of His earthly life, to protect the sanctity of holy places bathed in centuries of prayer, and to support those who daily carry the Cross amid trial, exile, and silence.
Through works of charity, education, and mercy, the Order does more than preserve memory—it rekindles hope. Each deed becomes a candle lit against the night, a testament that love is stronger than despair and that the flame of faith cannot be extinguished. Read more
Guided by the radiant patronage of Saint George the Great Martyr, the Order seeks to mirror his virtues: valor without cruelty, faith without wavering, and love without measure. He teaches that victory belongs not to those who wield swords of iron, but to those who bear the sword of mercy. “In His Name, we conquer—not by force, but by love.”
Membership in the Order is open to Orthodox Christians in good moral standing, yet its embrace extends beyond its own household. Coptic, Ethiopian, Armenian, Syriac, and Roman Catholic brethren are welcomed as Companion Members—not as strangers at the threshold, but as beloved pilgrims gathered around the same eternal flame.
For the Order, to rescue a single Christian soul, to rebuild one shattered sanctuary, or to lift one grieving heart is not merely one task among many—it is the very service of Christ Himself. Wherever compassion is offered, Christ is present; wherever mercy is shown, heaven bends near.
The Order walks not in pride, but in pilgrimage. Its members are servants of the Light that neither sword nor shadow can extinguish, striving to bring healing where there is hurt, dignity where there is despair, and hope where the Cross still stands.
